bold

Sloebrook, bold as ever, cast a moss-line into the sunny Rootcellar pond, hoping someone would wave back.

Origin

Sloebrook grumbles at every ripple and sends most visitors packing with a blunt word, but that gruffness hides a deep fear of being alone. Each dawn they cast a line from the mossy bank and dream of a little home of their own, with a reed door and a view of the water. Their secret wish is that someone will one day sit beside them on the bank without being asked.
